Welcome to South East Coast Ambulance Service

New SECAmb website coming soon – watch this space!

Website front pageAfter nearly a year of development, we are really excited to announce that our new website will be hitting your computer screens very soon! We ran a number of focus groups with members of the public and staff, as well as conducted a series of sessions where users tested the new site – this has all ensured that the new site has been created in direct response to what you told us you wanted to see.

New features include:

• an interactive map of all of our locations as well as local hospitals;

• interactive forums so you can share your views with other people who are interested in the ambulance service;

• an image library where you can download a variety of high quality photos;

• the option to sign up for a monthly email bulletin which will tell you about all of our latest news;

• an events calendar so you can see where we will be visiting if you want to come along and meet our staff.

 In addition to all of the above, the site will also feature lots of exciting and useful information on topics such as:

• how to get more involved with your local ambulance service;

• the services we provide to your local community;

• our latest health awareness campaigns;

• working for us;

• what happens when you call 999 and how you can help us to find you quickly;

• and much much more!

So, keep watching this space, and we hope you like the new site as much as we do! www.secamb.nhs.uk

StF eventShaping the future of your ambulance service

Our annual engagement events are under way and more than 400 people will have participated this year. Thank you to everyone who took part, asked questions and discussed issues – the events have been lively and thought-provoking. Feedback from the events, including what SECAmb has done as a result of your input, will be made available here in due course. A copy will be sent to you if you joined us at an event.

White Paper consultation - SECAmb's response

On Monday 12 July, Secretary of State for Health, Andrew Lansley, set out the Coalition Government's ambitious plans to reform the NHS during this Parliament and for the long-term. The White Paper ‘Equity and Excellence: Liberating the NHS’ was published and was the beginning of an extensive consultation process.

Please click here to see four papers prepared and approved by SECAmb's Trust Board in response to the White Paper consultation.

South East Coast Ambulance Service has come a long way - from a service that transported patients to hospital to one that now transports specialist treatment to the patient.  Click here to see our short DVD and let our staff show you what their work involves and tell you how you can get involved.

Could you be a responder for your community?

Automatic External Defibrillator (AED)

Community first responders are now playing a vital role in the emergency care we provide to the southeast of England. They are just ordinary members of the public who have been trained by the ambulance service to deliver life-saving skills in their local areas pending the arrival of an ambulance.

Responders are trained to give aspirin, oxygen and a hypostop gel for diabetics. They are also trained in how to use an EpiPen if an anaphylactic patient is unable to administer their own treatment.

If you would like to become a community first responder, please contact the Community Responder Team on 01273 897 861 or email: recruitment@secamb.nhs.uk
